BITES & SIPS ||
Every year, there are telltale signs that spring is on its way: the start of Spring Training for the baseball season (early February), setting the clocks forward for Daylight Savings Time (March 9th), and, although sometimes not the most obvious - the first day of spring (March 20th). Along with these, many of you know that there is another long-standing tradition that marks the start of warmer weather near the Washington Square Park in downtown: the return of Dave's Sidewalk Café & Catering cart.
Under the canopy of some of our city's tallest skyscrapers, Dave and his wife Sue have been serving the downtown lunch crowd for over 25 years.
With a wide-selection of offerings that include hometown favorite Zweigle's hot dogs and sausages; burgers, steaks, and even vegetarian options, Dave's street-meat cart will be out serving up lunches near the northwestern corner of the Washington Square Park until late October. They also offer catering for all occasions.
Heads up - you might want to plan your lunch a few minutes ahead of the rest of the crowd - the line for Dave's has been known to wrap around the corner and is consistently one of the most sought-after carts in the city. On opening day, this past Tuesday March 18th, we couldn't believe that people even knew that the cart was operating in the 40 degree weather!
If you haven't already, like all things Rochester, this is an experience you'll definitely want to try. Stop on over to Dave's Sidewalk Café & Catering cart near the Washington Square Park and say hi to Dave and Sue.
