How many small local businesses hit 50 years and keep going? Especially ones that have been run and owned all 50 years by their original founder. We know of only one - and this one has a special place in our hearts. Fab-Weld started out 50 years ago as a fabrication and welding company...
And over the last 50 years they've evolved with the changes in economy, businesses in Rochester, and needs of the community. Now, while they still have welding jobs, they handle more auto mechanic jobs than anything else.
The owner, Roger Contant, also happens to be my (Stefanie) grandfather! This is where entrepreneurship runs deep in my veins. Over 5 decades ago my grandparents moved here, from Canada, and I'm thankful they've lived here ever since. It's safe to say that they consider themselves Rochesterians by now.
On Friday, September 19th, we were a part of the 50 year celebration at Fab-Weld with a ribbon cutting and plaque presentation by the City. Representatives from the City of Rochester and Senator Robach's office were on hand to take part in the celebration. Below, my grandpa pauses from work to show Del Smith, Commissioner from the City of Rochester, what he'd been working on before they arrived.
To him, it was just another day that he was able to do what he loves.
From here we moved outside...
Del Smith, Commisioner. Department of Neighborhood & Business Development, City of Rochester, speaking at Fab-Weld.
And then my grandfather shared a little bit about the journey so far. It was a very memorable occasion.
Pictured below are my grandparents...
And my Uncle Denis, now business partner with his dad. It's truly a family run and owned business.
50 years strong with many more to go.
