Friday & Saturday on the Fringe
If you want to see our city packed with thousands of spectators at one time, these will certainly be the days. What is Friday & Saturday on the Fringe you ask? A FREE grand spectacular performance and celebration downtown at Parcel 5 (next to One East Ave), with food and drink vendors and amazing entertainment both days.
This year's headliner is Massaoke. "This is not karaoke. This is MASSAOKE. Where we sing and dance our collective hearts out in a unique live-gig setting that no one will ever forget. It. Is. Euphoric. A celebration of some of the best-loved songs ever written and Rochester’s best night out at the Fringe."
If you do nothing else Fringe, you'll want to be a part of this!
Spiegelgarden & Spiegeltent
Located at the aptly named "One Fringe Place" on the corner of Main & Gibbs Streets, the Spiegelgarden marks the Fringe center. Every day of Fringe, this outdoor area transforms into a urban lounge that includes food and drink vendors, urban greenery, modern lounge furniture, outdoor art, and a firepit for the more fall-like nights ahead.
You'll definitely want to make this your home-base to relax with friends, play some games, watch pop-up performances, and check out the ever-so-popular Pedestrian Drive-In with FREE movies every night.
Also located at One Fringe Place is the Spiegeltent. This European "Mirror Tent" is a rare find worldwide (at best, a few in the world still circulating), and boasts some of the best Headliner shows that Fringe has to offer.
Both Fringe weekends Gibbs Street will be closed to traffic and open for Fringe. Here you'll find a variety of outdoor free concerts each day.
One thing you WON'T WANT TO MISS on Gibbs is Street Beat. On Saturday, September 22nd watch 3-on-3 dance teams face off on the dance floor for a chance at winning the title of Fringe Street Beat Champions and a cash prize of $1500! This event has become more and more popular every year (tip: get there early to snag a seat!). Preliminary rounds run from 12-2pm with the finals from 3-4:30pm.
You Can Volunteer!
If you can't get enough Fringe, or really want to get the inside scoop, there's no better way to do so than to volunteer. Not only would you be helping to make Fringe possible, Volunteers receive the official snazzy Fringe t-shirt and qualify for one free ticket to a Spiegeltent show for every 8 hours worked. To get all of the details and to sign up, check out the Volunteer page.
If you're still not sure what Fringe is, it's 11 days of comedy, music, dance, spoken word, theatre, visual arts and FUN! And it's something you don't want to miss.
There are so many different types of shows each day, take a chance & try something new!
