You're planning a big Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends this year in the city, and you want to get away from the same old, same old. Or maybe it'll just be you here in Rochester, all by your lonesome. No worries! We stopped by our favorite (and only!) downtown grocery store recently - Hart's Local Grocers - to find some great ideas to dress your table with on November 27th. While you're feeding yourself, there is no better time to give thanks to the local farms and organizations that feed our economy here - helpful tip, look for the little red and white LOCAL tags.
For you cheese lovers and a bit of an appetizer, you'll want to stop in at the cheese shop to discover some of the local flavors such as the cow's milk offerings from Chaseholm Farms.
There are dinner rolls from Donna Marie's, gluten and preservative free.
Make sure to grab your cider for the taste of the season. These are from Red Jacket Orchards located in the Finger Lakes Region.
And speaking of drinks, Hart's has a wide selection of local beers, including this Vanilla Porter from city favorite Rohrbach's.
Thinking of making a delicious apple pie? There are great local apples ready to be sliced, sugared, and baked into a crust made with local flour from Small World Food.
Don't want to do the baking yourself? Bring home some Italian wedding cookies for you and your guests that will surely be a hit.
Maybe pie and cookies aren't your thing - check out the selection of local breads made by the Gluten Free Chef, like this Pumpkin Spice Bread!
Don't forget to dress your home and table up too! Local flowers and season specific floral decorations are available near the front entrance.
This isn't the most in-depth look at how to do Thanksgiving locally, but we hope that we're at least jogging your mind with different ways to celebrate the upcoming Holiday. Take a look at their flyer below for some other Thanksgiving Day options - NOTE: there are a limited supply of turkeys available in-store, beginning November 20th, but all orders must be placed by Monday, November 17. Hurry up and order!
