The Rochester Downtown Development Corporation (RDDC) has recently announced The Commissary will be coming to downtown in early 2018. Now, while that may seem quite a ways off still, here's why you'll want to know about it now and what you need to know.
The Commissary - What is it?
The Commissary is a kitchen incubator and will be in the basement of The Metropolitan (former Chase Tower) - anyone remember the Concourse Shops? They are looking to tackle one of the biggest obstacles for people looking to start a food business - the cost of setting up a commercial kitchen.
This will be the first kitchen incubator in Upstate New York and will be great for startups, food truck owners, bakers, caterers, you name it.
"But I'm not in the Food Industry...", you say
RDDC has announced that The Commissary will also be used for cooking classes, pop-up dining events and even mentoring startup entrepreneurs.
First Thing's First - A Workshop
The Commissary will be holding its first workshop on Tuesday, April 25th from 6-7:30pm at CUE, RIT's Center for Urban Entrepreneurship at 40 Franklin Street.
How to Set Your Food Business up for Success – and the Permits and Documents You Need to Get There. You’ll have the chance to ask the speakers questions and talk with others looking to grow their food businesses.
Who's Leading it:
Ed Bizari, Launch NY
Caroline McNamara, Monroe County Health Department
Allen Mozek, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets
This event is open to the public at the cost of $15, you can RSVP here. Light refreshments will be served.
