Summer has come and has officially gone, but we're getting lucky this early October with some warmer weather to make the transition into fall a little easier. Of course, the memories remain especially since many of us have these amazing handheld cameras (with us all the time) that can capture the moments.
Here's a quick look into our camera phones and what we've captured this past summer as we reminisce about Summer 2017.
Above is a shot from a plane (JetBlue, of course!) at about 1500 ft coming in for a landing at the Greater Rochester International Airport in July. The vantage point is just south of the City, looking north up the Genesee River towards Lake Ontario in the distance, with Mt. Hope Cemetery directly below and a portion of the UofR campus right under the wing tip of the plane.
In early August, the Rochesteriat was incredibly honored to be at the opening of Nagle's Observance, a brand new establishment near Parcel 5 in Center City. With craft cocktails, favorite local brews on hand, and quite possibly a favorite glass of your own, this place is ready to become a favorite hangout for many - especially as the fate of Parcel 5 hangs in the balance.
On July 18th, we (the Rochesteriat) were excited to present to the public a first glimpse into one of our new projects called MetroPops with our co-founder Ben McDonald of Beer Otaku. Take a look at the deal that you may have missed at the Playhouse/Swillburger, but be ready to see more of these amazing deals from local favorites around Rochester in the coming months.
Yes, and this is the damage done at Swillburger after getting our MetroPops.
If you're anything like us, we love to enjoy a good walk around our city or go running along the Genesee Riverway Trail. Undoubtedly, you've noticed a ton of construction happening at the moment all over the city, including this massive project being undertaken just south of Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and the Court Street bridge.
Dubbed the Promenade at Erie Harbor Park, this City project promises public access via walkways along the Genesee in downtown (something that is currently few and far between) and more development along the River.
This summer we were able celebrate with our friends Casey Bowker, Amy Riposo and Team for their launch of ROConnoisseur at Jetty at the Port this summer (congrats guys!). This project had been a long time in the making for the Team, and they have finally made it happen. Watch all the episodes here.
The Rochester Twilight Criterium also returned this year for another show-stopper race in downtown. If you missed a chance to see this and join in the thousands of people downtown, here was our post on 5 Things You NEED to Know about the Twilight Criterium, read it so you can be ready for 2018!
Friend and local artist phenom, Thievin' Stephen doing a pre-launch painting for local band Joywave's new album. Find this mural outside Nagle's Observance at 45 Euclid Street.
A walk in Mt. Hope Cemetery is always beautiful, over the summer while everything is lush and green, or in the fall as the leaves start to change colors (our 2 favorite times to go for a walk).
Boxcar Donuts opened early in the summer providing great coffee and fancy donuts to the masses and they did not disappoint.
Lastly, something that we're extremely excited about in our own neighborhood is the focus and attention from the City on the Washington Square Park.
With a massive clean-up effort to clean and restore the Soldiers and Sailors Monument as well as the Austrian Cannon, we're excited to be a part of the Washington Square Park Community Association and help with the efforts of improving our area of downtown.
