URBAN LIFE ||
Great businesses are not only built on talent, but dreams and passion as well. And, in this charming & hip boutique on Park Ave, you'll find all of this and much more.
Tanvi Asher (founder, owner, dreamer, and talented designer) has quite the background. A Dubai native, she attended school in Buffalo for graphic design and from there it was onto RIT for industrial design. Her Master's thesis combined a love of fashion and design: it focused on how one piece of clothing could have multiple functions. Before venturing out on her own, she held jobs for both Bausch & Lomb here in Rochester as well as Fisher Price in New York City.
(this picture doesn't do the window display justice, one MUST see it in person!)
But it wasn't long before Tanvi began designing clothes (in part to improve her thesis). She would make a few things, sell them, and then make a few more. Her designs gained a following and soon she was looking for a manufacturer in NYC.
We're happy that both her true love and her love of the city kept her here in Rochester. "It's accessible and inexpensive to live here... and the culture is diverse in the city". Just as diverse as her shop patrons - women of all ages, races and backgrounds shop at Peppermint.
But don't think from these photos that when you stop in these items will be available. If you see something at Peppermint that you like, snag it before someone else does! Tanvi only stocks a few of each item and when they're gone, they're gone. The store is always changing. If you want something unique that the whole city won't be wearing, this is the place for you!
You'll find things designed by Tanvi, as well as purses and scarves that are handmade. You'll also find other local artists and designers and a few artists and designers from other city's as well.
And there's no shortage of Rochester love here!
Whether it's jewelry...
... clothing, accessories, shoes, or any other fashionable thing, we're sure you'll fall in love with the minty freshness of Peppermint.
But for Tanvi, it's not just about pursuing her dreams, but helping others pursue theirs. She hires alumni from RIT and students interested in finding a career in fashion. While working they can see and learn what it takes to follow their dreams first hand.
And if none of that warms your heart, we have one last story to tell... As a young man, Tanvi's father was interested in attending RIT for photography. From his home in Dubai, with no internet in those days, he found the address to Kodak on his film and wrote to Kodak telling of his desire to attend RIT and imploring someone to forward his letter along to them. A month and a half later (or so) he received word back from RIT with the information needed to apply. Though he never attended, you can imaging his fatherly pride, to see his daughter attend and succeed in this city.
Even more proof that Kodak's reach has impacted this world well beyond Rochester and film.
