Rochester Greenovation: upcycling at its finest

Have you ever waited for someone else to do something or address a problem and it doesn’t happen? Jay Rowe knows this feeling. He looked around Rochester and waited for someone to address the ever growing landfill situation and no one did. “Other big cities have found ways to deal with the landfill situation…” he said. At our current trash disposal rate, in just 5 year's time [in 2018], Rochester's Mill Seat landfill, in the town of Riga, is expected to reach capacity. Something had to be done and that's why Jay Rowe started Rochester Greenovation.

Straight from Greenovation's website they share their vision: “We live in a goldmine. Around here we call it ‘waste’. Every year, thousands of tons of usable building materials, furniture, and more are destroyed, set out to the curb, or otherwise discarded. What if, instead of the landfill, we put these materials into the hands of those who could use them?”

We couldn’t agree more. Everything in this space is finding new life. Even the Hulk...

Part of what they’re selling has come from donations, part is from their “Green Entrepreneurs Program” they’ve created a place to help entrepreneurs grow their upcycling business. And the money Greenovation makes goes back into what they’re doing.

They love being in the heart of the city and being accessible to those who are in need of what they have and who appreciate it.

Greenovation is always taking donations and they may even have a bit more space for anyone who is looking to Upcycle . They’re involved in many green efforts in the community and even hold events, especially at their community stage and art gallery, The Space.
