A Sneak Peek Inside the Former Eastman Dental Dispensary

You may be tempted to think that all of the residential development happening in and around the city is directed at the uber-rich, the sizable millennial generation, or the combination of both. But Home Leasing, LLC proves that theory wrong with their portfolio of affordable housing and single-family residences throughout New York, PA, and Maryland - with some notables here in Rochester.

The Eastman Dental Dispensary, now called Eastman Gardens, is one example of a recent development that has been taking place at 800 East Main Street. The building was originally built in 1917 as a community gift from George Eastman, a place that provided affordable dental care to the Rochester market. The redeveloped apartment complex now houses 52 units, mostly 1-bedroom, for seniors ages 55+.

Here's a quick look into this residential project that, while it opened its doors to its first residents in mid-July, will celebrate its Grand Opening by late summer.

Rooms are spacious, bright with natural light, and modern amenities. Some ceiling heights stretch as tall as 18'.

Some rooms come with sunlight windows overhead, providing that extra bit of light to the darker corners of the rooms.

Much of the natural wood and paneling was preserved and incorporated into the design of the rooms. In 2013, the Landmark Society of Western New York chose the Eastman Dental Dispensary as one of their "Five to Revive", a list that calls attention to historic treasures in need of investment and repair.

The former Operatory of the Dispensary now overlooks Blackfriars Theatre, providing residents various options for cultural amenities in the growing and changing neighborhood of Marketview Heights. The Public Market is right around the corner from the building as well.
