Slow Road Travel has released episode 3: People Make Place. This episode takes a look at how the people within our communities bring place together, and bring it to life. They take us on a journey west out of Rochester on Route 20A to Warsaw, East Aurora, and ending on the peripherals of the city of Buffalo at the South Park Botanical Gardens.

Ben Woelk of Slow Road says, "I feel inspired and...genuinely touched from the people that we've been able to meet...and looking at their commitment to their own communities, seeing how day in and day out they dedicate their lives to their work, their businesses to the betterment of their local neighborhoods...and I really hope through Slow Road we're able to learn by example...see what other people do, actually bring those things back to our city, so that we can improve our city here..."

Slow Road Travel has once again brought us a great episode that shows what taking the "slow road" can be like. This episodes takes Monroe Ave (Route 31) from the city and Route 21 South to travel to Roots Cafe in Naples.

"When you take a slow road, sometimes the experiences you face on one end of it are very different then what you encounter on the other end."

As we recently announced, the Rochesteriat is excited to be partnering with Slow Road to be one of the outlets to show the new production they call “a Spirit of Place documentary series dedicated to capturing the roads less traveled and benefiting and honoring the people and places we discover.” Although we are city-focused and believe in living local and supporting local, the Slow Road series takes us out of our urban comfort zone, intentionally forgoing the highways, guiding us on a journey through the "slow roads" - allowing us see and support the "local" of other small cities and towns. It's a model of thought and travel that we readily stand behind, because the highways of the last 50+ years have been designed to get people in and out cities as quick as possible - and in the process, quite literally making us lose sight of the true essence of (any) place.

This episode starts on our very own East Ave in the heart of our city and takes route 96 straight to Mac's Drive-In in Waterloo, NY.

Slow Road Collaboration

We're excited to announce a collaboration with the production team and video series called "Slow Road". The Rochesteriat is honored to be one of a number of outlets to show the new series produced by Slow Road that features "a Spirit of Place documentary series dedicated to capturing the roads less traveled and benefiting and honoring the people and places we discover." This new series is dedicated to showing the great, and often forgotten about, places around our great city giving us all a refreshed perspective as to how we're all connected in some way, shape, or form. Although we at the Rochesteriat are primarily focused on the great metropolis of our city, we also know we don't live in a bubble. The success of our city is dependent upon the success of our region and the outlying areas - and vice versa. It's our hope that we can partner with Slow Road in the near future to bring our readers a few "Spirit of Place" short productions on the great assets right here in our city.

In the meantime, we think our readers will enjoy - what we would call - these great urban getaways that make our city so unique to live in. The first video in this documentary series is to be released Friday, September 12th shortly! Stay tuned for the first episode - watch the trailer now!
