The time has come for our annual announcement: Movies With a Downtown View presented by Buckingham Properties is back for 2019! We are in the final planning stages for another great year.

Last year we celebrated our 5th year by branching out to more locations which included Washington Square Park, Parcel 5, and the Hyatt’s rooftop Center City Terrace + Lounge.

Midtown EATS announced changes for this year with lunch on Thursdays and then lunch & dinner on Fridays. Midtown EATS will run from 4:30-9:30pm on the 12th (with a happy hour from 4:30-6:30pm) and we’ll be kicking off MWADV at 7pm with music, free raffles, more vendors and of course a great movie.

Buckingham Properties presents Movies With a Downtown View 2017: 5 Reasons You Don't Want to Miss

In just under one month, our 4th annual Movies with a Downtown View presented by Buckingham Properties will be taking over the park formerly known as Manhattan Square Park (MLK Jr. Memorial Park, that is). In case you missed it in the last 3 years, here are 5 reasons why you'll want to go to Movies with a Downtown View on July 14th and August 18th:

1. The Experience

the Rochesteriat

the Rochesteriat

How often do you spend a few hours in a park, on a blanket with friends or family, hanging out and enjoying downtown? Oh you don't do this often? Why not do this while enjoying a movie under the stars with the cityscape as your backdrop?

2. Be a Foodie

The Rochesteriat

The Rochesteriat

Pack a fancy picnic or have cash ready to purchase food there. We'll have 2 food trucks at each event and beer for purchase from Roc Brewing. Keep an eye on the website for info on who else will be joining us!

3. It's FREE

These movie nights are free! That means there's no charge to get in... what else do we need to say?!

4. There might be giveaways

Okay, okay, we shouldn't say "might be", because there will be giveaways. In the past 3 years, we've given away several Round-Trips on the Official Airline of the MWADV, Jetblue Airways, and tons of local goods. Better yet, there's no cost for entering to win!

5. The Movies

We're going with recent films this year, one with a NASA flair and one with an international base. Both are exciting and fun films, so check out the trailers below:

July 14th - Hidden Figures

AUGUST UPDATE - Hidden Figures:

While our original plan was to show Hunt for the Wilderpeople on August 18th, our plans have changed. Since we were unable to show Hidden Figures in July, we will be showing it in August! We will keep Hunt for the Wilderpeople as a possibility for next year, because well, it looks quite fun.

This year we are again partnering with our favorite downtown movie theatre The Little Theatre to produce these events. Last year's inaugural event was a huge success and we cannot wait to fill this park again with people. Will you join us?

For those of you who missed the event last year, take a peek inside here.

College Town Eats for Summer Fun

college-town-sign.jpg

the Rochesteriat School may be out, but College Town is alive and well. Brand new store fronts are being built out and filled with new - and there's even more happening on the lawn. Each Wednesday through August 26th a new band is taking the stage from noon to 2pm to entertain the lunch crowds. Friday evenings through August 28th you'll find concerts as well. And oh yes, we can't forget Saturday night's FREE Movies under the Stars, now through August 29th. In fact, there's so much happening, the CT developers have aptly named the main street over there "Celebration Drive".

And don't think for a moment that any of this is just for the students and faculty of the University of Rochester - College Town exists to seamlessly fuse the private institution of university with the greater public.

the Rochesteriat

One thing that goes great with concerts and movies? Food of course! And you certainly don't have to worry about bringing food with you when you head to College Town, there are numerous options.

Picnic Constantino's Style

the Rochesteriat

Mere steps away from the lawn in College Town you have one of Rochester's newest grocery stores, Constantino's. It has everything you need to make a great picnic including the good snack staples of chips, pretzels, and Oreos, to prepared foods, baked goods and plenty of drink options. Apparently our photographer was distracted by the fresh baked donuts at the bakery...

the Rochesteriat

...but remember, there's always the healthy options, too, in the fresh produce section.

A Healthy Treat

the Rochesteriat

Looking for something really healthy while you relax during your stay? Check out Breathe's juice bar full of tasty treats including this favorite of ours, peanut butter chocolate goodness (officially named "protein punch").

the Rochesteriat

While you're there, sample some of the Breathe's cold pressed juices, you may be surprised at how good they are. Don't overlook the salads, house-made granola, or house-made baked goods either!

Get Happy at Grappa

the Rochesteriat

Grappa is CT's newest opening - and one of its most exciting. Located inside the Hilton Garden Inn, the restaurant serves a modern twist of the traditional cuisine called Italian Nouveau and offers a more upscale casual feel for those interested in getting away from the crowds on the picnic blankets. Start here before your concert with Happy Hour happening every day 4-6pm and features 2 for 1 drink specials -

the Rochesteriat

- or unwind after your shopping or entertainment experience in the outdoor lounge area that features colorful modern seating, as well as two fire pits to stay warm by.

Many More Choices!

the Rochesteriat

Looking for something on the lighter side or a quick bite? Don't forget that there are tons of other food establishments in and around College Town including the Corner Bakery Cafe...

the Rochesteriat

...Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches, Moe's Southwest Grill, The Beer Market, Saxby's Coffee, Insomnia Cookies, and much, much more! There is absolutely no reason why you should ever go hungry over there at College Town.

Movies with a Downtown View: SUCCESS!

URBAN LIFE ||

Movies with a Downtown View

In case you missed it - It was a beautiful summer evening Friday July 25th, 2014, and the Rochesteriat was honored to be involved with the first-ever production of Movies with a Downtown View. Presented by Buckingham Properties & the Rochester Area Community Foundation and situated in the city park formerly known as Manhattan Square Park (now: MLK Jr. Memorial Park), this first-time event drew over 250 attendees as we gave out hundreds of dollars of trivia prizes and raffles, including a set of Roundtrip tickets on JetBlue Airways, a package prize that included a $50 gift card to Amore by Wegmans and movie passes to The Little Theatre (a co-producer of the event), and much more. There was even FREE white cheddar popcorn for all attendees courtesy of Frito Lay!

While the event didn't officially start until 7pm, we were blown away by the fact that people started showing up at 6:10pm with blankets and picnics, just to hang out! Here are some early shots of the park lawn, well before the movie screen was even set up as well as some other shots of what the evening looked like.

People arriving early Attendees knew what they were doing as they brought out their blankets, pillows, picnics, lawn chairs, and a general sense of enjoying the downtown scenery. IMG_3843

In the future, we'll make sure to tell people to get there early as the space filled up quickly!

Amore-Gelato We were so proud to be the first event ever for the brand new Amore by Wegmans Gelato Cart, what a HUGE success! And why wouldn't it be, thanks to Amore Restaurant Manager Jigmed Latshang (left) and Krissy Hennessy (center), they handed out nearly 300 FREE sweet treats for the entire crowd. That's us to the right, Stefanie & Jason Schwingle of the Rochesteriat, getting a taste of the delicious gelato.

We also send a HUGE thanks to our co-producers, sponsors, and supporters who helped make this first event a true success.

In case you're on the fence about coming to the next event on Friday, August 15th, here are a few other pics that will hopefully seal the deal for you. We thank our friend Stephen Reardon of SSR Photography for taking such incredible photos of the evening!

We hope you can join us for our next and final movie event of the 2014 summer on August 15th. Once again we'll have 2 Roundtrip tickets to a destination of your choice on JetBlue Airways to give away for our raffle Grand Prize, and we'll be showing the 2013 summer hit, The Kings of Summer.
