Goals for 2018 @ the Rochesteriat

The Rochesteriat

The Rochesteriat

At the end of each year and the beginning of the new one, we (Jason & Stefanie) always take some time to reflect and look ahead.

When we launched the Rochesteriat (coming up on 5 years!) we had a goal to write about all of the positive and great things happening within the city limits of Rochester - that goal has never changed. We're proud to be a positive light for what's happening in the city.

The Rochesteriat | Fahsye Mug

When we started this site, it was our only "passion project", but since then it's expanded to Movies With a Downtown View, the Washington Square Park Community Association, our coming soon business - MetroPops, and so much more! We wrote about some of these things in our 2017 is Done! Let's Look Back post if you haven't seen it yet. As we dig into this new year, we wanted to share some behind the scenes info...

Our Professional Goals for 2018

Rochesteriat-DETAILONLY-01.png

the Rochesteriat is here to stay. Even as our time is spread among other things our goal is to continue to produce fresh content, keep our Events Page up-to-date and continue to produce our Weekly Email. Our new posts may not be weekly, but we're not going anyway and don't forget to follow us on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter!

Our biggest goal for 2018 is to launch MetroPops! The idea for MetroPops came from a desire to help local businesses in Rochester and see more people support local. MetroPops is a deal site focusing on the best LOCAL places to eat and drink, experience and enjoy.  We accomplished a lot in 2017, but there's still so much to do - (again, check out our 2017 is Done! Let's Look Back post for more info).

Movies With a Downtown View is celebrating 5 years this summer and we could not be more thrilled. We have some exciting things in the mix for this year that may or may not include more than 2 movie nights. Stay tuned for the dates and all the deets!

Lastly, and on a broader perspective with the WSPCA, we're beginning a focused look at Washington Square Park and how we can make some much needed changes to it. There are a lot positive things happening in Center City, and we want to make sure we do our part by making our neighborhood and park the best  it can be. Work will begin shortly as we partner up with Community Design Center Rochester through a series of discussions, meetings, and events that include a public charrette, hiring a professional landscape designer, and developing plans for the near future and beyond.

We're looking forward to a great year and hope you continue to follow along with the Rochesteriat, stay tuned for MetroPops and join us at our movie nights this summer!

Where To Walk: Washington Square Park Community

the Rochesteriat

the Rochesteriat

As residents and business owners in the Washington Square Park Community downtown, we obviously love this area of the city. But, we also think you'll love it too so we want to share a blog post from the new WSPCA (Washington Square Park Community Association) website...

WHERE TO WALK

City dwellers and others who work in our corner of downtown can easily find places to run, walk or wander.

But if you're looking for a challenge, try these paths created by the American Heart Association and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield for M&T Bank (our newest neighbor!).

The designated paths will tell you how many steps and miles you've reached as you walk or race around the city blocks. They even estimate how many calories you'll burn while tackling each path.

Movies With a Downtown View 2017 - That's a Wrap!

The Rochesteriat

The Rochesteriat

Another year of Movies With a Downtown View has come and gone as quickly as the last.

For the last 4 years, we - with the help of our incredible sponsors, Title Sponsor Buckingham Properties, co-producers (The Little Theatre & the Washington Square Park Community Association), and the community - have been able to transform MLK Jr. Memorial Park into the event, Movies With a Downtown View.

Here's a look at this year's two events:

The Rochesteriat

The Rochesteriat

While the evening of July 14th started out beautiful, it quickly (like many other days this summer) turned to clouds and eventually... lots of rain. But from 6:30-8:30pm (before we had to cancel the movie) the community came out, enjoyed food and drinks from our vendors, relaxed on the lawn and enjoyed downtown with us.

On Friday August 18th, the sun was shining, the air was warm, and yes, there were movie-goers already camped out before the screen even got set up.

Every year our movie-goers get creative and impress us with their chairs, picnics, games and everything they bring out for the night. These guys definitely had some luxurious and comfortable seating.

Prior to the start of the August movie, Jason and I (with the help of Isaiah, our ASL interpreter) drew the raffle winners to some great local prizes as well as the grand prize of (2) roundtrip tickets on Jetblue Airways. Congratulations to all of our winners this year, including Jakob of Ontario County, who was our grand prize winner.

And that's a wrap for 2017. Next year will be our 5 YEAR Anniversary! We are already brainstorming ways to make 2018 an even better event and a fun celebration. If you have any creative ideas for us or would like to get involved, please email Jason at president@rocwashingtonsquare.org.

See you next year!

Clean Sweep 2017 - Thank YOU!

the Rochesteriat

the Rochesteriat

Thank you to all who braved the City's Clean Sweep 2017 events this year....while it wasn't the nicest of years that we've seen with the pending rain and cooler weather, we still had an amazing turnout for the cleanup in the Washington Square Park.

Special thanks to the Board members of the Washington Square Park Community Association, First Universalist Church members, and the baseball team from Churchville-Chili school district (for the 2nd year in a row!).
