Sometimes it's hard to distinguish quality among the clutter. In a world of shopping centers and strip malls we often end up purchasing something that many MANY others have purchased... because it's mass produced. We also happen to live in a city that offers us many options to do something different - shop local! Purchasing from a small business supports a local family and the money from that purchase stays local. Want to do something great for your city? SHOP LOCAL! Here are a few of the Rochesteriat's picks to keep you shopping local this year, with UNIQUE gifts.
M & A Co.
First up is a new company to our city! Founded just a few short months ago from husband and wife team, Marc & Alyssa Priddy (get it... M & A), "M & A Co. is a guild for handcrafted, refurbished and re-purposed items. From furnishings to accessories, we take basic materials: wood, metal and leather to create rustic quality. We love what we do and we aspire to find a simple balance where creativity, work, life and inspiration converge" (via. Etsy).
The bench pictured above was a custom order created from a picture and theirs turned out even better than the original. We couldn't love their creations more. Check out their Etsy shop to see their creations, but don't be afraid to pitch them an idea for something unique.
Rochester Public Market Cookbook
What screams LOCAL more than a cookbook created by locals, using local ingredients? "This cookbook celebrates the bountiful fresh, local foods that we enjoy through all four seasons at the Market. The recipes came from a wide range of farmers, vendors, shoppers, chefs and Friends of the Market. The chosen recipes had to feature Market ingredients, be relatively easy to prepare at home, and taste delicious." (via website).
