A new radio station in the city is emerging? Believe it. On August 20th, the founders of a new and different kind of radio programming here in Rochester launched their Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for equipment and operating expenses for the first year of operations.
WAYO is an affiliate of the Multi-Use Community Cultural Center (MuCCC) on Atlantic Avenue, and has secured a broadcast tower and studio space at the former Fedder Industrial Park on East Main Street.
In the words of Mike Yates, co-founder of WAYO: "WAYO will provide expansive musical and cultural programming rooted in the Rochester community, including diverse and idiosyncratically curated music; original comedic, dramatic, and musical performance; interesting and relevant talk; and voices underrepresented in the Rochester media. By emphasizing creative freedom, human personality and diversity of voices, WAYO will create engaging and adventurous experiences for listeners."
